Interesting Tribune article.
I happen to have lived in Patrick O’Connors ward for nearly 10 years now (just barely in each case due to gerrymandering). I’ve never been particularly impressed by him, and he was totally unopposed in the last election. But this story in the Trib totally caught my eye.
Barbara O’Connor has sold an entire subdivision built after her husband rezoned the property. And she has sold more than $11 million in homes for a developer since he received Patrick O’Connor’s support to build a senior center in his ward.
O’Connor’s snappy comeback:
“I have a job and I do it. My wife has a job and she does it,” the alderman said. “It’s not my job to prevent her from earning a living.”
Well, that’s convenient.

Apparently he wasn’t a total douche bag rail baron; he also gave a chunk of money to the University of Chicago to build an observatory in his name. More after the jump… (more…)

Pure gold. Jon Pertwee, aka the 3rd Doctor from Doctor Who, stops by Son of Svengoolie circa 1984 to promote the Doctor Who convention at the O’Hare Hyatt. I’m not entirely sure if the set falling apart around them is an homage, or just low budget.
